State of Anarchy is a casual and cathardic overhead shooter which strongly resembles the first Grand Theft Auto. Quoted from the Steam store description, "Fulfill your inner sociopath as you mow down enemies with guns and cars alike, in a bid to pull off the world's largest heist!" You can collect this fun arcade anarchy hit for just 59 cents on Steam until May 4! Standard price 99 cents.
GENRE AND OBJECTIVE
State of Anarchy is a 2d overhead shooter resembling carnage-packed classics like Total Carnage, Smash TV, Zombies Ate My Neighbors and the first Grand Theft Auto. The objective is simple: Kill everything in your way! Armed with a constantly upgrading gun and the occasional stolen car, the player is tasked with mowing enemy shooters and suicide bombers with bullets and their hot ride, for at least 30 levels on normal or hardcore modes. On the way they'll invade banks occupied by tough bosses and hordes of enemies.
The player navigates on foot with the WASD and fires their weapon with the mouse. Driving is operated by accelerating with W and reversing with S, and steering left and right with A and D respectively. The game can be paused at any time with the Escape key. As of April 30, 2016, there is no gamepad support and Joy2Key will not translate the mouse-based aiming well.
GRAPHICS AND AUDIO
The graphics and audio are perfect for a plain and simple murderfest like that found in State of Anarchy: The scenery all looks like flat doodles out of a bored kid's notebook, and the characters are doodles with highly expressive faces and limbs. Fittingly, the sound effects are all human vocalizations. The machine gun goes "dah-dah-dah-dah-dah", the suicide bombers say, "Boom!" when they explode, the rocket launcher goes, "Boosh boosh boosh!" and ricohet shots go, "donk!" Almost surprisingly, the music is NOT an alcapella soundtrack. Instead, it switches between an electric guitar jam when storming the banks and to a peppy ska beat when cruising in the car. It all fits together perfectly for a carefree killing spree.
State of Anarchy is so simple in its premise and presentation that the player can focus on and enjoy the pure fun of the game while they purge their urge to kill. It's a real hoot that everyone can enjoy!
